Son's Italian Ice & Ice Cream Information

Tucked along 319 W State St in Quarryville, Son's Italian Ice & Ice Cream has the kind of small-town charm that makes you slow down and actually enjoy dessert instead of rushing through it. From the outside, it feels like a classic neighborhood spot, but once you step up to the window and glance at the menu, it quickly becomes clear why so many locals keep coming back.

The menu leans heavily into Italian ice and classic ice cream favorites, but it’s the variety and freshness that stand out. The Italian ice has that smooth, almost velvety texture that’s hard to get right, with flavors that taste bright and true rather than overly sugary. On a warm afternoon, something like mango or lemon feels especially refreshing, while the richer ice cream options-think chocolate, vanilla, or seasonal specialties-offer a more indulgent treat. There’s a nice balance here, so whether you’re in the mood for something light or something creamy, you’re covered.

What really makes the experience memorable is the atmosphere. It’s casual and welcoming, the kind of place where families gather after dinner or where friends meet up just to hang out for a bit. During peak hours, you might notice a small line forming, but it moves quickly, and the wait feels like part of the experience rather than a hassle. The staff tends to be friendly and patient, happy to let you sample a flavor or two if you’re undecided.

In terms of location, being right in Quarryville gives it a strong local feel. It’s not trying to be a flashy dessert destination; instead, it leans into being a reliable go-to spot for the community. That authenticity shows up in customer reviews, which often mention consistency, generous portions, and a laid-back vibe that’s hard to replicate in bigger chains.

One thing worth noting is that information about rotating flavors or seasonal offerings isn’t always widely advertised, so first-time visitors might want to ask what’s new or popular that day. That small bit of curiosity usually pays off, especially if you’re open to trying something beyond the usual picks.

What People's Say About Place

Large & In charge! You want it big you'll get it big! Twice the size of any Dairy Queen where you actually get more "ice cream" than cone! Whatever you call it, it's the best soft serve around these parts. Belly beware.

The absolute best place locally to get ice cream. I highly recommend the Blue Goo. We go there weekly. Dog friendly, accessibility friendly. Please note there isn't a bathroom on the property. The outdoor furniture is always clean and the staff is incredibly friendly. We look forward to seeing them each summer season!

Wow when you say large cone, you get a high tower of ice cream! It’s delicious and they are very nice at the window. Great people, great ice cream!

Best ice cream in southern PA. Their Avalanches far exceed Dairy Queen's Blizzards. Tremendous variety of flavors and add one. The taste is unbelievable and the service has always been fast & friendly.

Waterice and ice cream was really good and the portions were larger than most ice cream places around. Staff was very friendly and the service quick. Will definitely be back.

First time coming here, and it was pretty good. Big selection and prices are standard for this day and age of inflation everywhere. Its in line with most good ice cream places. Next time, I'll try the Sticky Bun soft serve. Note to Self for future me: Don't get the turtle sundae, as it is not turtlely enough. There were two walnuts in the whole thing and mostly chocolate cause. Should be more caramel.

Really yummy. Polite service. Long wait, and more expensive than I expected for the area. Got a small vanilla with oreos.

Not bad ice cream. I got a dish of chocolate soft serve. Didn't want a cone because today it was very hot. Date of visit was Monday April 29, 2024. I recommend this fine establishment.
